No Cheboygan 72-Hour Archive
No official rolling 72-hour feed was found on the Cheboygan County jail page, the Sheriff’s Office pages, or county sitemap. There is no verified current roster, release tab, date filter, field list, update cadence, retention period, photo gallery, or inmate app to quote. The county’s detailed jail page is authoritative for the facility, yet it is not a released-person database. A multi-day result must come from retained sheriff records, not a reconstructed list from unofficial sites.
This distinction protects the meaning of the event. A person may leave the local booking because of bond, dismissal, time served, a court order, or completion of a jail sentence. Departure may instead be a transfer to MDOC, another jail, or another authority. A three-day list that omits the disposition and receiving-agency fields could blur those outcomes.
The official jail information page is the controlling source for the documented absence of a public release feature.
Because the official source offers facility facts rather than a roster, the three-day inquiry must use direct contact and record access.
Set a Cheboygan Release Window
A useful 72-hour request begins with two complete timestamps. Avoid a bare phrase such as “the last three days.” That phrase shifts with the time staff receive or process the request. Instead, state the calendar date and local time at both ends. A midnight-to-midnight period can cover three whole dates. A rolling period can begin at the current clock time three days earlier. The right choice depends on the question.
- Choose either three calendar days or one rolling 72-hour interval.
- Write the start and end date, time, and local time basis.
- Ask whether the sheriff keeps an existing release log for that exact period.
- If no compiled log exists, identify the person and booking for a focused transaction request.
- Request nonexempt fields in electronic form and keep the agency response.
- Pair the result with the relevant court order when the legal reason matters.
The sheriff-specific request route appears on the Cheboygan County FOIA page. The office may apply exemptions, redactions, and lawful fees. It may also report that no compiled countywide log exists. That answer does not mean individual release transactions were never made.
A clear request can ask for existing jail release logs or booking-and-release transactions recorded from the chosen start timestamp through the chosen end timestamp. It can then name the nonexempt fields sought: booked name, booking number, booking time, release time, release disposition, and receiving agency. This wording does not demand that staff create a new three-day report. If the custodian does not keep one combined log, ask whether responsive individual transactions can be located for the period or narrow the request to a known person.
Cheboygan 72-Hour Release Fields
Cheboygan County publishes no online field set, so the items below are fields to request from existing jail records. They are not a promise that each is present or public in every case. The broader time span makes identity and event details more important because several bookings or people with similar names may fall within one period.
| Requested item | Why it matters in three days |
|---|---|
| Full booked name and alias | Helps separate similar identities across the period. |
| Booking number | Links one release to one local booking. |
| Booking date and time | Distinguishes a new booking from an older one. |
| Release date and time | Places the event within the stated 72-hour bounds. |
| Disposition or reason | May identify bond, order, sentence completion, or transfer. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Helps separate community release from continued custody. |
For a countywide log, ask only for existing nonexempt columns. For one person, provide a date of birth, case number, booking number, or arrest date when known. A narrow request can reduce search effort and false matches.
Note: Cheboygan County publishes no online retention rule, so a missing web record says nothing about internal record retention.
Cheboygan Weekend Release Checks
A three-day interval is helpful when a release may have occurred after court hours, across midnight, or during a weekend. It does not create a special official weekend feed. Cheboygan’s known local bond process changes by time and method: cash bond is handled through 89th District Court during business hours, card payments use the sheriff kiosk, and after-hours posting goes through the sheriff counter or lobby kiosk.
Those steps can produce several different times. Bond may be posted before the jail finishes processing. Another hold may remain. Paperwork may need review. The physical release transaction is therefore more useful than a payment timestamp for deciding whether the exit fell within the 72-hour range. No official research states that Cheboygan releases follow a fixed weekend cadence, and none should be inferred.
A court docket can show an order, bond, dismissal, or sentence event. It does not ordinarily record the moment the jail opened the door. Use the sheriff transaction for that time, then use the court entry to explain the legal basis.
Cheboygan Release Data Gaps
The local jail page is unusually detailed about operations while publishing no roster or recent-release archive. That is the defining Cheboygan data fact. There are no public fields, cadence, or online expiration rule. Records should not be described as “dropping off after 72 hours.” A public display never existed for that claim to describe.
Later access can also be affected by sealing, expungement, juvenile limits, exemptions, or redaction. Internal retention follows agency schedules, not a three-day website window. A later blank result is therefore inconclusive. Ask the sheriff whether the named existing record is retained and public.
- Cadence
- The schedule on which an online feed updates. None is published for Cheboygan releases.
- Retention
- How long the custodian keeps a record. It is not the same as online display time.
- Redaction
- The removal of exempt details while other public portions may be released.
- Expungement
- A legal set-aside process that can alter public access to qualifying records.
Verify Cheboygan Release Results
Each source has a limited role. Call Cheboygan County Jail at 231-627-3155 for current custody information. Use Sheriff FOIA for the durable local transaction. Review MiCOURT for the order or disposition. Michigan VINE can support prospective event notification when the supplying feed carries the event, but it can lag and is not a certified permanent archive. OTIS applies only if the person entered MDOC prison, parole, felony probation, or recent discharge status.
| Question | Best Cheboygan source |
|---|---|
| Did the person physically leave the county jail? | Sheriff release or transfer transaction |
| Why was release authorized? | 89th District or 53rd Circuit record |
| Did custody continue with MDOC? | Sheriff transfer field plus OTIS |
| Was a future event reported? | MI-VNE alert, then originating-agency verification |
| Is this a federal release? | Federal locator and records, not the county log |
“Released,” “transferred,” “date paroled,” and “discharged” are distinct labels. Preserve the exact wording from the source. A transfer out of Cheboygan County Jail is not community release, while parole is release from prison into continued MDOC supervision.
Scope a Three-Day Request
A broad Cheboygan County request may require more search and review than a named-person request. Michigan FOIA permits certain labor, duplication, media, and mailing fees when statutory rules are met. The county does not publish a flat release-log charge. If cost or scope matters, ask for an estimate and limit the request to the exact interval and existing fields needed.
Michigan FOIA generally provides five business days for the public body to grant, deny, or partly grant a request, or to issue notice of one permitted ten-business-day extension. That process is for records, not an instant custody alert. If the question is urgent, call the jail first and follow with the written request.
Note: A wider range can catch an uncertain date, but it cannot repair a wrong identity or a request sent to the wrong custodian.
From 72 Hours to Today
Once the relevant date is known, a tighter same-day request can reduce ambiguity. The Released Last 24 Hours process uses a fixed same-day interval and gives special attention to bond processing and local transportation. It is not a different online feed because Cheboygan County publishes neither window.
For a named person whose custody path is unclear, use the Cheboygan County release search to separate a jail-only booking from an MDOC, federal, or immigration record. Sending every name to OTIS is not sound because MDOC expressly excludes people sentenced only to county jail.
