Cheboygan Released Photo Records
A jail mugshot is the photograph associated with a booking record. It documents an image connected to that arrest process. It does not show that the person remains confined, left on a certain day, was convicted, or completed every hold. The date-bearing jail release transaction is the stronger source for physical exit from Cheboygan County Jail.

Access still depends on the facts, Michigan FOIA exemptions, lawful redaction, and any court or statutory restriction. Michigan VINE may show identity and event information in a live record, but no source establishes it as a permanent Cheboygan booking-photo archive. A photograph from one system should not be relabeled as another system’s mugshot.

Cheboygan County’s FOIA page publishes a distinct Sheriff’s Department request route, a policy summary, request form, appeal forms, exemptions material, and cost information. A request can target the booking photograph and the matching release transaction. Identifying both records helps distinguish a photo from proof that the person left custody.

- Give the full booked name and another known identifier.
- State the booking number or the booking start date and range.
- Ask for “the booking photograph associated with” that identified booking.
- Also request the release date, time, reason, and receiving-agency field if needed.
- Ask for an electronic copy and name the preferred format.
- Keep the request and response, including any denial or fee notice.
A request should seek existing records. It should not require staff to make a new gallery, research a life history, or answer a questionnaire. Michigan FOIA generally provides five business days for a response or notice, and one permitted ten-business-day extension may be invoked. The result may be granted, denied, or partly granted.

MDOC Photos After Cheboygan Release
An OTIS profile can contain an MDOC offender photo. It applies to people within MDOC categories, such as prisoners, parolees, felony probationers, and recent discharges. OTIS excludes a person whose only custody was Cheboygan County Jail or a city lockup. An OTIS image must therefore be called an MDOC offender photo, not a Cheboygan booking photo.
MDOC warns that a photo may be unavailable when the person left before electronic images were used or had not yet been photographed. For a past state prisoner, a focused MDOC request can seek the offender photo if available along with discharge material. OTIS generally displays people discharged from MDOC supervision within the recent public window described by MDOC, but that window concerns the public display and not destruction of every agency record.
The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry can display a photo for someone legally required to register. That image and record are offense-specific. Registry presence is not a universal release record, and it does not provide the Cheboygan County Jail exit time.
Verify Copied Cheboygan Mugshots
A local news report or official sheriff release may preserve an arrest photograph after other public displays change. Publication is event-driven and incomplete. An arrest story does not prove conviction, current custody, or the date of release. Use the name, booking date, or case number as a lead to the sheriff and court records.
Commercial mugshot publishers and generic roster directories are not originating agencies. They can show stale data, omit the final disposition, or match the wrong person. No commercial mugshot or data-broker link is needed to verify a Cheboygan County record. Cheboygan Photo and Release Proof
A source image and a release event answer different questions. The booking photograph can help connect a face to an identified jail record. The booking number connects that image to one custody episode. The sheriff’s release date and time then show when the local booking ended. A disposition field or court order can explain why. Keeping those links intact is more accurate than treating the image itself as a status marker.
For a transfer, request the destination or receiving agency field when it exists and is public. A photo from Cheboygan County Jail can remain the local booking image even after the person enters MDOC or another jail. The later custodian may create its own image and identifiers. Neither photo proves that all custody ended. If the person moved to MDOC, use OTIS for state status and retain the sheriff record for the Cheboygan exit.
Dates also matter. A news item may use a booking image on a later publication date. An OTIS image may remain while status changes from prisoner to parolee or discharged. A registry photo may be updated under registry rules. Always record which agency supplied the image, which record it belongs to, and when the supporting status was checked.
Cheboygan Mugshot Access Changes
No enacted Michigan-specific anti-pay-to-remove statute was found in the official-source review. Michigan should not be described as guaranteeing removal from a private publisher or setting a fixed removal deadline. Paying a removal service is not an endorsed path. Correct factual errors with the agency that created the record and use the publisher’s own lawful correction process when a copy is involved.
Juvenile, sealed, nonpublic, and set-aside matters can have special access limits. MDOC says OTIS removes a record when a conviction is set aside or expunged. That does not establish what every independent recipient retained, nor does it turn an old photo into proof of current status. Court records follow court procedures, while sheriff records follow Michigan FOIA and applicable exemptions.
